Making it Easy

All activities are off-site at inspiring venues and walking locations within Hadrian’s Wall Country. All our services include a ‘walking and talking’ element outdoors – unless the weather is simply too atrocious. So, key to this, is making your experience as stress free and comfortable as possible – starting with some essential logistics!

Venues we use

Here are some of the venues and meeting points that we use:

The Sill

Cawfields Quarry

Housesteads Roman Fort

Northumberland 250 HQ, Vallum Farm

Green Croft on the Wall

Facilities

All venues for our meetings and events have toilet facilities and refreshments available. The majority of meet-up points for our TREAD-walks are also at these venues. Other TREAD-walk meeting points are in towns and villages that also have facilities and refreshments available.

Accessibility

All venues for our meetings and events have accessibility features including ramps and facilities such as toilets and Changing Places facilities.

Some of our TREAD-walks are not accessible for people with mobility issues. However, we have arranged a number of TREAD-walks that are fully accessible at Walltown Country Park, which has been upgraded with easy access flexipave paths and a pre-bookable Tramper mobility scooter.

  • Waterproof/windproof outer jacket – and trousers if rain forecast
  • Boots with good sole pattern – trainers aren’t suitable as they can slip and don’t support your ankle*
  • Comfortable clothing/layers
  • Hat and gloves
  • Spare warm clothing

Equipment, eats and drinks

For half-day and full-day programmes (excludng the Community and Net-walks), a branded Limited Edition hot drink flask per attendee (to use and keep) plus a Field Notes Journal and pen will be provided. However, colleagues may wish to bring other resources for the session.

For half-day and full-day programmes of support, arrival, mid-session refreshments will also be provided, and lunch for full-day sessions.

None of our Fresh Perspective walks go beyond two and a half hours, so minimal additional equipment and food is generally required, unless you have any specific dietary requirements. So, you may wish to consider:

  • Comfortable daysack
  • Snacks and water, plus maybe a warm drink
  • First aid kit – blister plasters! Although a qualified First Aider is with us on the walks.

All locations are accessible by road and have parking on-site or nearby in public carparks, some with parking charges. The majority of venues and meeting points are also easily accessible by public transport, be this by train and/or bus.
